April 27-May 1

It's finally here! The time for our first grade friends to show off just how smart they are. We begin MAP testing this week! I know my students are ready to ace this test and to show everyone what I already know...that they are some smart kiddos :) We will be taking our MAP reading test Wednesday and Friday morning, so parents, please be sure that your child has plenty of sleep the night before and a good breakfast. Encourage them to do their very best. I know you will be as proud of them as I am!

Here's a look at this week-
Reading- This week we will be reading two versions of the well-known fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood. First, we will read our version, discussing the characters, setting, and events. Later in the week, we will read the Chinese version, Lon Po Po. As we read, we will discuss the similarities and differences we see between the two stories and their cultures. We will have a test Friday.
Math- We will continue working with two-digit numbers, this week focusing on subtraction. We will learn several strategies to help us solve two-digit subtraction equations.
Science- As we continue our study of plants, we will begin focusing on edible plant parts.
Social Studies- We are continuing our study of Chinese culture and traditions.

Three Cheers for Mrs. Ehlich!

If you didn’t hear…our class raised the most money for our playground equipment and got to tape our principal to the flagpole. Mrs. Ehlich was such a good sport :) Check out our picture to see all the fun...
